Brisbane 2032 - the Olympic and Paralympic Games

By John Sheridan in General 41 views 13th Jan, 2023 Video Duration: N/A
One year after the International Olympic Committee elected Brisbane and South East Queensland as host of the Olympic Games 2032, Brisbane's Lord Mayor and Deputy Mayor reflect on the benefits the Games will bring to Brisbane, Queensland and Australia.

Councillors Adrian Schrinner and Krista Adams were involved in shaping the Games vision and sustainable masterplan, which led to the election of Brisbane 2032 at the 138th IOC Session in Tokyo in July 2021. This is the first in a series of IOC films talking to some of the partners behind the Brisbane 2032 Olympic project.

The Olympic host selection process has been reformed in recent years, to reduce the cost of hosting and to make Games organisation more sustainable. For example, all Olympic hosts must use a maximum of existing and temporary venues and build new ones only if there is a long-term legacy need.

Every aspiring Olympic host is invited to partner with the IOC to help build its own unique vision for the Games, a sustainable masterplan, and local and national support.

The IOC encourages each potential host to focus on developing a climate-responsible project that will create lasting community benefits and fits with existing regional and national development plans, in addition to the long-term strategic goals of the Olympic Movement.
